Website Philosophy

For most businesses, the world of the web is demanding of resources that need to be focused on its mission. It is our goal to provide a roadmap through that unknown world.

Unless there is an overwhelming reason not to, we build websites in WordPress. There are many reasons for this. In the last few years, most of the websites out there have been built this way (According to W3Techs, WordPress is used by 59.9% of all the websites who use a CMS or builder. This is 31.5% of all websites.).

There are so many “plugins” available that a WordPress site can perform almost any function that can be done online, without the need for original programming. That means a site built this way, even when you hire us to do it, will cost far less than one built using more sophisticated tools, such as Adobe Dreamweaver (which we can use, if the need is there.) The cost difference is probably 3 or 4 to 1, even for the basic functions.

Just as important, in just a few hours, we can train you or your staff to keep the site updated. That way, it can be kept current on your schedule, at minimal cost. Or you can hire us to maintain it or add new functions. Or you can find plenty of others in the web world who can provide the service for you if you so desire.

When we build a website for you, we register everything in your name. You get all the user names and passwords and literally “own” the site. We are just a service provider. We buy hosting and domain names through GoDaddy, an Arizona company, which has the best phone tech consulting (free) we’ve ever seen. As owner of the site, you have access to that help.

When we help you with social media, those sites are yours as well. We just sign in as administrators when that function is needed.

It is our policy to give you a written proposal that lays out all costs and a timeline for website development (and most other) work. Our billing matches that proposal, so there are no surprises. (If we’re working hourly, of course, we can only provide an estimate, but we’ll contact you before we go over the amount we have suggested.)

We will always recommend installing analytics on your website and on your social media platforms. But this is an option that you can choose or reject, depending on your needs and your budget. Or you can pick it up later.

With website development, we will talk with you up front about your needs, your schedule and your budget and we will work to stage the development of your site to coincide with those criteria. We try to make your online presence modular, so that you can pick and choose where to start and where to go next.

Contrary to what you might see promoted, online marketing isn’t “free.” It may not cost to sign up for a Twitter account, for instance, but to make it work for you, you have to do something with it, and if you or staff is busy tweeting, you’re not doing something else. That’s a cost.

We try to give you an idea of the kind of time you can expect to spend doing your marketing so that you can decide whether to do it yourself or hire it done. (Perhaps by us.)

We don’t just want your business. We want to be a part of your team. We want to feel free to suggest better ways and talk to you about new techniques and technologies. We want you to succeed. Only then are we successful.
